ABOUT YOUR FIRST VISIT
During the first visit, we will discuss what brought you to make an appointment for counseling. I ask a lot of questions. You decide how much information you want to share. I usually ask some version of “Why now?” Or, was there a moment of “This is the last straw”. Your answer will help guide our conversation to discovering your motivation for change. I find it helpful to discuss your past experiences in relationships, your medical history, and any previous mental health issues and treatment. Most appointments last about one hour.
You can use our initial appointment to decide if we are a good fit for your counseling experience. You will get a sense of my style and if you are comfortable enough to continue. Typically, I make weekly appointment to establish momentum for change. Once change is occurring, you tailor the frequency of appointments.
